We have all said it…
Someone has tread on our toes just once too often and we decide in a moment of exasperation that we just don’t need to “put up” with their nonsense anymore.
We wake up feeling deeply hurt…
Because we are living in a world full of imperfect people, we all experience conflict from time to time with those we live and work with..no matter how much we try to keep the peace.
Next time consider the source…
Certainly there is a time and a place for “shaking the dust off our feet” (see Matthew 10:14) but maybe these times should be rare? And definitely not our first knee jerk response.
I have decided to follow Jesus…
and so these words will be my resolution instead.
Love your enemy and pray for those who persecute you that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5: 44)
How do we practice forgiveness?
- By obediently praying for someone despite their actions against you.
- By honestly admitting first to yourself and then to God that you have been hurt by this person or situation.
- By humbly asking for God to heal your broken spirit.
Next time you are tempted to “wash your hands” of someone or something, stop and consider the source.
Make the conscience decision to listen and follow Jesus’ words instead.
Father forgive them for they know not what they do. (Luke 23:34)
Dear Lord and Savior,
We give our thanks and praise for the gift of your precious blood that cleanses us of all our sins. As we journey into a new week, help us…bring peace to our days…lighten our hearts and guide us into resting in your care. Soften our ways and develop in us a more compassionate vision. Help us to see that you are always just there… resting behind the eyes of another person.
Peace be with you:)
