I have been following and exploring the spiritual exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola this month with the Jesuits of Britain Pathways to God.
One of the practices that they encourage is to pray the “Examen” which teaches a guided meditation to daily examen your day or your week through prayer. The following phrases and questions are ones that stood out to me and I have paired them with this beautiful scene from 36 Views of Mount Fuji by Hokusai.
Imagine yourself into the scene of this beautiful and tranquil place…
Awaken your senses..
breathe in the cool mountain air…
fill your lungs with relaxation…
listen for the sounds that surround you…give thanks for the breeze and the sounds of the birds. Fully realize that God is in this place.
“Look back over your week”
Let God “draw you into the fullness of life”
“As you move through the details of your week, give thanks to God for his presence.”
“Ask God to send you the Holy Spirit to help you look at your actions with honesty.”
“Ask that you will learn and grow as you reflect.”
“Notice when your attention wavered between listening and ignoring”
“See where Jesus entered your decisions”
The following is my favorite examen prayer. I love how they have paired this meditation with the sound of the flute in the background.
You can find it on Soundcloud which is also a really cool resource that you can download free onto your computer or phone. I’ve noticed lots of people are using it now.
I hope you enjoy and have a blessed week.
Thank you. Enjoyed this!

I also want to add that the words ““Ask God to send you the Holy Spirit to help you look at your actions with honesty” spoke to me this morning. The Holy Spirit is, after all, the spirit of truth, and also the Comforter. It is a blessed event when one is comforted by truth.
