An Instrument of God

It has been rather a tough week for me that maybe at some point I will share with my readers. In spite of this, or maybe because of it, I am wanting to make sure I post something. I need to send a little light out into the universe and hope that it will touch someone and start a ripple effect…

Just sharing a couple of recommendations this week and a poem. It would be wonderful to hear from you this week or any time. Thanks for reading connecting with God thru the Arts:)

The Poem

An Instrument of God

A small, wooden flute, an empty hollow reed, rests in her silent hand.

It awaits the breath of One Who creates the song through its open form.

My often-empty life rests in the hand of God;

like a flute, it yearns for the melody with only Breath can give.

The small, wooden flute and I, we need the One Who breathes,

we await the One Who makes melody.

And the One Whose touch creates, awaits our empty, ordinary forms,

so that the song-starved world may be fed with golden melodies.

Book Pick of the Week

The Comfort of Autumn by Tom Murphy, Crystal Creek Press 2006

I love this man’s work as he has created these beautiful coffee table books for each season that are filled with his photography of Yellowstone National Park. Not only do you get to luxuriate in his imagery but he shares his insights of how he captures each shot. He has a book for each season too. Put it on your Christmas wish list or buy for a friend. I like to go to the actual website of the artist so they get the greatest benefit from my purchase.

Please let me know if you have a favorite book, song or poem you would like to recommend.

Have a great weekend!

J.R.

  2. I’m enjoying your new writings, especially since it’s painful to write with cast on right arm; we have similar taste in art, too….keep it going!
